Protecting Your Car’s Interior Against the Summer Heat

Blog | Jun 25, 2016

In our previous blog post, we provided tips for protecting your car’s exterior against the harmful UV rays of the sun and desert heat in the Phoenix metro area. Now, we will take a look at how the sun could damage your car’s interior and what you can do to protect it.

  • Get regular interior car detailing services. Vinyl, leather, and plastic surfaces and fixtures inside the vehicle can deteriorate and fade over time from continued direct exposure to the sun and its UV rays. Having interior surfaces moisturized with the right products increases UV protection, and also prevents them from cracking and drying out.
  • Remember to leave your windows slightly cracked. As the air inside the car heats up, if it is not vented you are essentially turning your car into an oven. Leaving a few windows open about an inch helps vent some of the hot air.
  • Get your windows tinted and use sunshades. Tinting the windows reduces UV exposure and heat transfer inside the vehicle. Sunshades help keep your steering wheel and dash from becoming a cooktop and burning your hands.
